Good morning!
Today's word: Cappuccino
We crave that creamy pick-me-up, the cappuccino. But have you ever wondered why it's called that? The answer's a frothy blend of history and fashion!
The Kapuziner:
Back in 17th-century Vienna, a coffee drink called the "Kapuziner" was all the rage, named after the Capuchin friars known for their brown robes. This strong coffee, topped with whipped cream, unknowingly borrowed the friars' name (and perhaps their color scheme).
A Robed Inspiration:
Fast forward to Italy in the early 20th century. The espresso machine arrived, and with it, the cappuccino we know today. The name stuck, likely due to the cappuccino's resemblance to the Capuchins' brown robes – a delicious tribute in a cup!
I hope you have a fantastic weekend!
